What I Think Is Ailing Modern Society

Oh wow... guess what, according to the small number next to the number of posts I've ever posted it's saying that this one is the 50th post. This calls for a celebration. *pops the cap of sparkling cider* What? Did you expect REAL champagne? Pfft, I'm not twenty-one yet.

All right, so, that's a bit of a celebration. This blog has had it's ups and downs, of course, just like 80% of everything in life. And it has been a year since it's creation so I can say that this blog is a year old. *blows on party blower*

Okay, so, sorry for not being able to post. My entire routine has been thrown off balance now that Band is over. I think I might have all ready said it but we didn't make State. We did apparently too bad at a competition in Corpus Christi. They took seven bands to finals and we got eighth place. Sucks, right? And so, my schedule just went totally upside-down and I now have too much time on my hands that at some points I'm looking around thinking, "What the heck am I gonna do now?"

So, my mind has been in a frenzy, which means I can actually start on writing my blog posts earlier -- or start them in the morning and finish them at school, which is what I've done with this blog post.

It is now November, woo-hoo, but Texas is by far the most friggin' bipolar state ever. Because, two months ago, it was 100+ degrees F. That's HOT people. And I mean every day, every week since June and it stopped in mid October. That's... *counts on fingers* five and a half months! And now, it's 20 degrees in the morning and a high of 60. -_- Honestly? Well, apparently yeah. I wake up this morning freezing and my little brother screaming like he always does in the morning because his ADHD medicine hasn't kicked in. And gosh, I'm actually kind of sore. From what? I'm not sure... >.> I was rolling around in the grass but I don't think that would, you know, affect me. Maybe so. Anyway.

Let's talk about what I think is ailing modern society. And when I mean modern society, I'm talking about "my" society -- as in the people my age and a little bit below. And, I have to say this because some people might get offended, I am NOT directly aiming at anyone. Just in generality and most of you; my readers, aren't in that "generality" because ya'll are awesome. "Generality" is not. So, therefore, you have nothing to worry about so that whole warning was totally pointless but for the sake of nothingness, I'm going to keep it on there away because I am praising you all. Down with the Generality! Hmm... that sounds like a good name for something.

Hey! You guys, yeah you the person reading the words I am now typing in the dark, warmer-than-room temperature computer class room upstairs in room B225... you should be called the Non-Generalities. Ma En-gees! :D Perfect. Now... let's see how long that sticks. I'm putting a bid on probably two days.

ANYWAY. Wow, really off topic so I am aiming for the Generality, not the En-gees.

As I have said, our Band did have a compeition in Corpus and I also have a Grandma living there so we went to go visit her and over some upside-down-pineapple cake and coffee I said to my mom, "You know what I think is ailing modern society?" I get a barrel of laughters from the living room five feet away. And I didn't even get to finish my sentence. And now I will.

Do you know what I think is ailing modern society? Music. I've actually just talked about that a couple weeks ago... Music is what I think is one of the major causes of the failing modern society because now that I'm in high school, I've been exposed to some tid-bits of reality and it's a sad, confusing world out. But if you're a writer, you'll just look at it like a giant story and deal with it like any writer would: sit, observe, and wonder how it's all going to turn out in the end.

A lot of reality has been coming to me like the fact that apparently a lot of kids and I'm talking eighth graders in particular, or at least, that's the age group where some of the problem I've been hearing are, are doing some awful things, such as drugs and having sex. All right guys, I'm not going to get into that matter because I will dedicate an entire post to my opinion on drugs and sex are... *puts on list* See, it's all ready there and waiting to be written about.

Music is a big influence and it's actually a source of inspiration for writers. For me, it's more like a background noise more than anything and I always have my ear-buds shoved in my ears, which doesn't necessarily mean it's playing all the time. Example: I am listening to music right now and here are the lyrics:

As time goes by,
nothing has changed.
I won't stand and watch you wither away.

After all this time,
I stand by you,
through all of the years,
I've been with you.

Through pain and affliction,
through every addiction,
I will never let you die.

Now... those are pretty good lyrics, saying that I will stand by you all the time and I won't ever let you die. Those are my good songs. Check that song out, it's called Eye of the Storm by Killswitch Engage.

Now, another:

I look around me,
and all I seem to see,
are people going no where,
expecting sympathy.

It's like we're going through the motions,
of a scripted destiny,
but tell me where's our inspiration,
if life won't wait, I guess it's up to me.

When I'm Gone by Simple Plan. Another good one.

Now, there are other songs that talk about going to clubs, drinking, doing drugs, and having sex all night long. First of all, what I don't understand if why people think that it's okay to do that. And then those stupid rappers talk about this like it's a daily routine and then kids listen to that song -- eighth graders, the Generality, and they think, "Oh, he raps about it, I can do it too," That's probably not the exact... thought process but that's where I think that comes from...

Also, peer pressure. Another blog post dedication. Peer pressure is every where and I think that if one person does something bad and gets someone else to do it... it then spreads like infection.

Now, don't think that I don't listen to "bad" music whose lyrics aren't "moral" because I do. But you know what, I'm still sane, Christian and loving life. How? Because music is a very emotional way to get a point across or express a strong poem and I do not take it serious. Yeah, you'd think I had some supernatural kind of way of listening to it with specially shielded ears... well, actually... I just don't take it to heart. I listen to the beat and not the lyrics. Simple as pie. Dur.

If you listen to rap, that's fine but if you take what they say into consideration and actually go through with it... heck, I've warned you. It's your life you're wasting and you only get one life, unlike in video games... >.> You get one heart guys.

What can you do? Don't take music seriously, just listen to it and enjoy it. Sound good? Awesome.

Got a new poll guys, check it out. Listen to what music you like, chill out, comment, check the boxes, feed my koi, and over all, chill out guys and be awesome En-gees. :)

Chels

  1. Perfectly agree with you. Also, I have a few tips for people who don't know which music to choose because their afraid of bad words.
1.) Pick a few older songs, because s-e-x didn't exist in songs back then
2.) I know a few of you may not like Disney, but those songs actually have a morale to them and are actually pretty good.
3.) Classical. Classical, classical, classical. If you REALLY want to make sure you don't listen to any bad lyrics, take classical. There's no lyrics there, except in opera, which is in another language anyways. Also, classical music has many sub-genres, so it's perfect if you are kind of moody.

  2. I agree with you 100%. Music is a big part in many peoples' lives... But come to think of it, I'm not a big fan of music, although every now and then I consider myself lucky to be able to take my Mom's ipod and listen to music whilst I do my chores... But otherwise, any music any louder then I acquire it to be, SUCKS. And that SUCKS for me, because my brothers are always putting on music so loud in the morning and I HATE IT!! So, music is what ails modern society... I think so. I also get different feelings... If it's a sad song, it makes me sad, if it's happy, I'll be happy, if it's a revenge song, IT MAKES ME MAD. I hate revenge songs unless it's one by Carrie Underwood... :) But the boys putting the music on so loud will make me angry anyway. I cannot tell you how right you are, but I can say AWESOME BLOG POST, Chelsea! :)

  3. You have interesting views, Chels. I enjoy reading your blogs. I agree with you here, too. I'm glad school hasn't 'taught' you how to think and you still have your own unique way of contemplating. I only wish more people would get over it and start thinking! Really THINKING. You'll probably think me odd, especially since this has nothing to do with your post... but I felt like I should say it. Hopefully your ability to be yourself despite the way schools these days continue to try and mold your personality will rub off on the people around you. Keep it up.

  4. Perrin,

I don't think you're odd at all. Numerous people have told me that same thing. I say school and actually reading book that contain alien races thinking about how stupid humans are. So, that's made me think differently as well. There are a LOT of books like that, to be honest. lol.

Thanks for the comments! And thanks too Tane! And... Anonymous!

  5. This is awesome! :D
I agree for the most part... I love music, but I try to listen to the ones with better lyrics. Because I like listening to and thinking about what the words are actually saying.
Songs all about sex and drugs annoy me. Mostly because they're rather tasteless and have no story to them. >.<
